Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package phyllo dough
- 1 pound chopped nuts
- 1 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup honey
Here is the recipe
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F(175 degrees C). Butter the bottoms and sides of a 9x13 inch pan.
- Chop nuts and toss with cinnamon. Set aside. Unroll phyllo dough. Cut whole stack in half to fit pan. Cover phyllo with a dampened cloth to keep from drying out as you work. Place two sheets of dough in pan, butter thoroughly. Repeat until you have 8 sheets layered. Sprinkle 2 - 3 tablespoons of nut mixture on top. Top with two sheets of dough, butter, nuts, layering as you go. The top layer should be about 6 - 8 sheets deep.
- Using a sharp knife cut into diamond or square shapes all the way to the bottom of the pan. You may cut into 4 long rows the make diagonal cuts. Bake for about 50 minutes until baklava is golden and crisp.
- Make sauce while baklava is baking. Boil sugar and water until sugar is melted. Add vanilla and honey. Simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Remove baklava from oven and immediately spoon sauce over it. Let cool. Serve in cupcake papers. This freezes well. Leave it uncovered as it gets soggy if it is wrapped up.
I have one perfume in my collection that screams the scent of honey. The fragrance is created by Tokyo Milk and I have found that many perfumes from this perfumer are on the gourmand side. I'm also obssessed with these perfumes because they are very reasonably priced and as of recently they came out with a new Dark Collection and I located a fantastic perfume I will write about in another blog.
In regards to Honey and the Moon, this little number is very gourmand and honey centered. Honey and the Moon was launched in 2003. The fragrance features not only honey but violet, jasmine and sandalwood. What's also interesting about this perfume is that it is unisex. I'm not really quite sure if any man would want to smell like honey though, but I have worn this one for my fiance and he enjoyed the smell.
The first bottle of Honey and the Moon I bought I had a minor mishap and dropped the bottle on the floor and all of its contents spilled out. I have a wood floor so that honey fragrance was sucked right in. I will say my bedroom smelled pretty good for a few days... at least 3! The sillage on this one is not a monster but you can smell it pretty well for most of the day, and I didn't even need to reapply.
So that is my take on Honey and the Moon. If you love honey you will love this perfume. If you don't enjoy the taste of honey this perfume will turn your stomache. For me, this is a scent I truly enjoy.
